The Tello APN settings use the APN wholesale on both Android and iPhone.
The APN, or access point name, tells your phone how to reach the data
network. Tello says it “usually sets up your data automatically”, and that
“some Android phones need a manual nudge”.

- Add a new APN.
- Enter the values from the table exactly as written.
- Save, then select the new APN.
- Restart the phone and send a picture message to test.
Tello APN settings for iPhone
Tello says that on an iPhone “you may need to manually update your APN”. The screen is Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Network, and it has three parts. The values are from Tello’s iPhone help page.
| Part of the screen | Field | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile Data | APN | wholesale |
| MMS | APN | service |
| MMS | MMSC | http://wholesale.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc |
| Personal Hotspot | APN | wholesale |
Leave everything else on that screen blank.
Questions
Which network do these settings connect to?
Tello does not name its carrier. Its Android instructions tell you to make sure “Tello or fast.t-mobile.com is selected”, and that second name is T-Mobile’s APN. More is on our Tello page.
Picture messages fail on my iPhone
The MMS part of the screen uses a different APN, service, not wholesale.
Check that one first.
