The Consumer Cellular APN settings use ereseller as both the name and the APN. The APN, or access point name, tells your phone how to reach the data network. The values below are from Consumer Cellular’s help page, under the heading “APN SETTINGS FOR AT&T NETWORK”.

You may not have to type anything

Consumer Cellular says “we are able to remotely configure your phone” if you contact a customer service agent with the phone’s IMEI number. Try that first if you would sooner not edit settings yourself.

Consumer Cellular gives no MCC, MNC or protocol for phones.

If your phone wants every type listed, the page gives an alternative for the APN type line: default, mms, agps, supl, fota.

  1. Open Settings and find Access Point Names in the mobile network settings.
  2. Add a new APN.
  3. Enter the values from the table exactly as written.
  4. Save, then select the new APN.
  5. Restart the phone and send a picture message to test.

Android tablets

For tablets the page gives the same APN, ereseller, the APN type default, mms, supl, xcap, fota, and IPv4/IPv6 for both the APN protocol and the APN roaming protocol.

iPhone and iPad

Consumer Cellular says of iPhones: “manually entering data settings is not required, however you may need to take a couple of steps if data is not working automatically once the phone is activated”.

  1. Update the iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
  2. Connect it to Wi-Fi.
  3. Open Settings, General, About. If a carrier update is waiting, a pop-up offers to install it.
  4. Turn Wi-Fi off, switch the iPhone fully off and on again, then test the data.

If that does not work, Consumer Cellular’s customer service number is (888) 932-3591.

For iPads it says “Most iPads automatically configure APN settings when a Consumer Cellular SIM is inserted”, and it offers a profile to download for the ones that do not.

Questions

Which network do these settings connect to?

AT&T’s, going by the page’s own heading. Consumer Cellular’s network is covered on our Consumer Cellular page.

Picture messages fail but the web works

Check the MMSC, MMS proxy and MMS port lines, and that APN type includes mms with no spaces.
