AT&T APN settings are not the same for every phone. A 5G phone uses the APN ENHANCEDPHONE. An LTE phone uses NXTGENPHONE. The APN, or access point name, tells your phone how to reach AT&T’s data network, and the wrong one is a common reason data or picture messages fail on a phone you brought yourself. Every value here is copied from AT&T’s “Program data settings for your device” article, which AT&T last updated on October 23, 2024.

Which AT&T APN to use

AT&T puts it in one line: “5G smartphone: Set your settings to ENHANCEDPHONE; LTE device: Set your settings to NXTGENPHONE; Data device: Set your settings to Broadband”.

AT&T APN settings for a 5G Android phone

Where the table says leave blank, AT&T’s article says “Not set”.

AT&T also lists Authentication type as None and Bearer as Unspecified.

For an LTE phone, change two fields and keep the rest. Name and APN both become NXTGENPHONE.

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Tap Mobile Networks, then Access Point Names.
  3. Find the option to add a new APN. It may be a plus sign or behind the menu button.
  4. Enter the values from the table and save.

AT&T APN settings for iPhone

For Apple devices AT&T’s article sends you to Apple Support. It does print a set of values in the layout an iPhone uses.

MMS APNNXTGENPHONE
MMSChttp://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxyproxy.mobile.att.net

Apple says you can view or edit these only “if your carrier allows it”, under Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Network. On most iPhones with an AT&T SIM the screen is not there, because the carrier supplies the settings.

If it still does not work

Which APN does a Cricket phone use?

Not these. Cricket Wireless is owned by AT&T and uses AT&T’s towers, but it has its own APN. Use the settings Cricket publishes.

My settings vanished after an iOS update

Apple says updating iOS resets any changes you made to the APN, unless they came from a configuration profile. Enter them again.

Picture messages fail but the web works

The three MMS lines do that job: MMSC, MMS proxy and MMS port. A missing mms in APN type has the same effect.
