The T-Mobile APN settings most phones need come down to one value, fast.t-mobile.com. The APN, or access point name, tells your phone how to reach T-Mobile’s data network. Every value on this page is copied from T-Mobile’s own data and APN settings page.

Try a network reset first

T-Mobile says all phones it sells, “and many that aren’t”, configure themselves. So before you type anything, reset the network settings and let the phone fetch them again. On most recent Android phones the path is Settings, System, Reset options, Reset Wi-Fi, mobile and Bluetooth. On an iPhone it is Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, Reset, Reset Network Settings.

Enter these only if the reset did not bring data back. Where the table says leave blank, T-Mobile’s page says “Not set”.

Three more fields appear on some phones. T-Mobile gives MMS protocol as WAP 2.0, APN roaming protocol as IPv4/IPv6, and Bearer as Unspecified. On a Samsung phone, APN type is a button labelled Internet+MMS and not a text field. A phone without LTE uses epc.tmobile.com as the APN.

  1. Open Settings and find Access Point Names. It is usually under Mobile network, inside Connections or Network and internet.
  2. Choose the T-Mobile APN if there is one. If not, open the menu and add a new APN.
  3. Enter the values from the table.
  4. Open the menu and tap Save.
  5. Delete any other APN in the list. T-Mobile says an APN named FOTA can stay.
  6. Check that the remaining APN is selected.
  7. Hold the power button until the phone turns off and restarts.
  8. Open a web page and send a picture message to test.

T-Mobile is careful about what these settings promise: “We can’t guarantee these settings will make an unsupported device fully functional on the T-Mobile network.”

T-Mobile APN settings for iPhone

T-Mobile’s page gives no values for iPhone, only the reset above. An iPhone on T-Mobile takes its settings from the carrier.

Apple says you can view or edit the APN on an iPhone only “if your carrier allows it”. If the field is there, you will find it under Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Network, according to Apple’s support page. If it is not there, you cannot set it by hand and the reset is the fix.

If it still does not work

My data stopped after an iOS update

Apple says updating iOS resets any changes you made to the APN, unless they came from a configuration profile. Enter them again, or reset network settings.

Picture messages will not send but the web works

Check the MMSC line character by character. Then check that APN type includes mms. On T-Mobile one APN carries both data and picture messages, so there is no second MMS entry to add.

I came from Sprint

Sprint’s network is gone and its customers are on T-Mobile’s. A former Sprint phone uses the T-Mobile values on this page.
