Sprint plans do not exist anymore. T-Mobile completed its merger with Sprint on April 1, 2020, and by the middle of 2022 it had switched off both Sprint networks. If you type sprint.com into a browser today you land on t-mobile.com.

What happened to Sprint, in dates

DateWhat happened
April 1, 2020T-Mobile announces it has “officially completed its merger with Sprint Corporation”
March 31, 2022Sprint’s 3G network, which used CDMA technology, is retired
June 30, 2022Sprint’s LTE network is retired

The first date is from T-Mobile’s merger announcement. The other two are from T-Mobile’s network evolution page, which says of each network that it “has been retired”.

The 3G date moved once. T-Mobile had planned to end CDMA at the start of 2022 and in October 2021 said it would “extend our deadline for the CDMA sunset by three months to March 31, 2022.”

What a former Sprint customer has now

A T-Mobile account. Sprint customers were moved onto T-Mobile’s network before the Sprint networks were turned off, and there is no Sprint service left to be on.

Old Sprint phones are the open question. A T-Mobile page written for business customers says: “Most Sprint devices, including handsets and non-handsets, are compatible with T-Mobile’s network and can continue to be used if you replace your Sprint SIM with a FREE T-Mobile SIM card. However, some devices are not compatible with T-Mobile’s network and must be replaced”. We found no equivalent page for consumer accounts, so ask T-Mobile about your own phone.

Whether an old Sprint phone can be used on T-Mobile or anywhere else is on our page about using a Sprint phone today. Sprint’s last plans, and where a Sprint account is now, are on our Sprint Unlimited plans page.

Questions people still ask

Can a Sprint phone be used on Verizon?

We could not find a statement from either company about Sprint phones on Verizon. Verizon’s general rule is: “If your device is unlocked and compatible with the Verizon network, you can bring it to us”. Use Verizon’s device checker with your phone’s IMEI number.

How do Sprint plans compare with US Cellular’s?

Neither carrier exists now, and both ended up inside T-Mobile. Sprint merged in 2020. US Cellular was bought in 2025. Each page keeps that carrier’s 2016 prices.

What APN does a former Sprint phone use?
