Porting is defined as the process of switching our phone number from one mobile operator to another. In this article you learn what all you need to remember while porting your phone number. Also find out various carrier networks related account number. Learn how to find account number for verizon and port to other mobile network carriers.
Number porting can be done in the following manner:
- Don’t terminate your existing service: Do not terminate your operator account before porting your number as porting itself terminates our old account and transfers it to the new one. However, if we stop our service beforehand then, the account will get terminated thereby, losing our number.
- Gather the information you need: Before switching the operator, one must get the data of the account- namely, account number, PIN or password, account holder’s name and billing address. These credentials are likely to be asked by the operator. If you do not remember your account number or password then look for the list below.
- Initiate a number port with the operator you are switching to : Initiation of number port can be done online while few operators require you to call.
- Ports usually complete within 24 hours, often in an hour or less: For a short duration of time during porting, likely 5 minutes or so, the phone may not work.
When the process is complete, you will receive either a welcome message or a voice call from the new operator. Sometimes, the phone automatically becomes active without reception of any text or voice call. However, if the phone doesn’t port within 24 hours then, please contact your new operator.
Text messaging can take longer to fully activate. Calling feature becomes effective immediately after number porting while messaging may take around 3 business days to be active. If the incoming texts are not functional then, contact your new operator.
