Xfinity Mobile vs Spectrum Mobile is rarely a free choice, because each is sold only to its own internet customers. Xfinity Mobile is “exclusively available to Xfinity Internet members”. Spectrum Mobile is “available exclusively to Spectrum Internet customers”. Which one you can buy depends on which cable company serves your address.

The comparison still matters if you are moving house, or deciding whether either beats a plan from a phone company.

Price after the first year

Both lead with a free or cheap first year, and both revert. Compare the regular prices.

On Xfinity that is $30 for Mobile Select and $45 for Mobile Plus, for one line with Xfinity Internet.

Spectrum is less clear for a single line. Its plan card says $30, and a footnote on the same page says “The standard price for one Unlimited Mobile line is $40/mo”. If you want one line only, confirm the price before you sign.

On these figures Xfinity’s entry plan gives more before it slows down.

The first-year conditions

Xfinity’s $0 year is for “New Xfinity Mobile members only”, covers one line, and “Requires residential post-pay 300 Mbps internet or above.”

Spectrum’s is for new customers and the first line only. It says, “After your first year, the promotional rate on your first line will expire.”

Network

Neither names its network. We file both under Verizon, on the evidence set out on each brand’s page.

Which one

You can only buy the one whose internet you have. If you have a choice of home internet, Xfinity’s entry plan has the larger data and hotspot allowances, and Spectrum has a middle plan that Xfinity lacks.

If you would rather not tie your phone to your internet provider, a plan from our cheapest phone plans page has no such condition.
